Over the past few years, the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation1 has under taken a broad review of the sources and effects of ionizing radiation. In the present report,2 the Committee, drawing on the main conclusions of its scientific assessments, summar izes the developmentsin radiation sciencein theyears leading up to the new millennium.
