United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation- DEVELOPMENTS SINCE THE 2013 UNSCEAR REPORT ON THE LEVELS AND EFFECTS OF RADIATION EXPOSURE DUE TO THE NUCLEAR ACCIDENT FOLLOWING THE GREAT EAST-JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI A 2015 white paper to guide the Scientific Committee’s future programme of work.
The Committee had assessed radiation exposures of the public, workers and nonhuman biota that resulted from the 11 March 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station (FDNPS), discussed the health implications, and presented its findings in its annual report to the United Nations General Assembly in August 2013. 4 The United Nations subsequently published the Committee’s findings and the detailed scientific annexes underpinning them on 2 April 2014 [U6]. The publication (referred to hereafter as the “2013 Fukushima report”) was well received by the General Assembly, governments, the scientific community and the media/public in Japan.
